Nordic walking, with its popularity, gives its first words of cautions: consult one’s physician before embarking to any program, since Nordic walking is a strenuous activity and is not suitable for everyone.
But to spark those embers of curiosity about the exercise, here is a 10-point starter by the International Nordic Walking Association:
Walk naturally.
Keep the shoulders relaxed. Do not hold the grip too strenuously.
Keep hands and poles close to the body.
The poles should be kept in a diagonal position.
As the left foot takes the step, move the right hand in unison.
Make the pole push just behind the line with the pelvis.
Open the palms at the end of the pole push.
Bring the pole quickly forward again.
Point the body forward in one line.
Achieve a total unrolling of the feet from heel to toes.
