Exel Nordic Walking Poles to be Featured at NAHF

Anaheim, CA. – Exel USA Inc., fully owned subsidiary to Exel Oyj, a Finnish manufacturer and developer of composite consumer products including cross-country ski, alpine ski, trekking and Nordic Walking poles announced participation as a sponsor at The National Association for Health and Fitness (NAHF) 30th Annual Conference "States Unite for a Healthy and Fit America!" on April 26-28, 2007 at the Knott’s Berry Farm Resort Hotel, Buena Park, California.

In 1997, Exel created the activity of Nordic Walking in Finland. Nordic Walking is “cross-country skiing without the poles” or “power walking with poles”. Through extensive development of activity specific teaching techniques and product, Exel has introduced an effective and low impact activity enjoyed by over 7 million people throughout the world.

Nationally renowned speaker, Exel Nordic Walking master coach, walking and environmental change advocate, Mark Fenton will hold a keynote presentation about the benefits of walking as well as promote Nordic Walking as a sport and great cross training activity. As the host of the PBS television series “America’s Walking,” a contributing editor of various health magazines and books and Nordic Walking master coach, Fenton promotes walking and Nordic Waking throughout North America.

“Nordic Walking is a great fitness activity that creates a 20-40 percent boost in energy expenditure,” says Fenton. “The sport is an excellent full-body exercise that increases upper body strength, reduces loads on lower extremities, and improves balance. I look forward to introducing this cost-effective activity to participants as it offers organizations a healthy and safe approach to physical activity.”

NAHF expects attendance to be an exciting mix of national and local political and health/fitness leaders. The conference is nationally sponsored by General Mills and will address the challenges of increasing physical activity, reducing obesity and building healthy communities.

California Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jake Steinfeld, the Chair of the California Governor’s Council, at NAHF will be honored at the conference for their leadership in the fight for health and fitness. Additional speakers include: the National Coalition for Promoting Physical Activity’s Shelia Franklin, Shape Magazine’s Barbara Harris and AAHPERD’s Dr Judith Young, The President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sport, the American College of Sports Medicine, California State University Fullerton, State Governors' Councils, and leading local community organizations who recognize and strengthen the states’ programs, policies and environmental support for physical fitness, sports and healthy lifestyles.
