Go Nordic Walking at Dogwood Pavilion

Dogwood Pavilion, the Coquitlam recreation facility for people 50 and older, is offering a number of programs on, or starting on, March 20. One program that you can try is Nordic Walking.

Dogwood is offering a Nordic walking clinic, based on a fitness regimen popularized in Sweden more than 20 years ago, on Tuesdays, March 20 to April 10, 7:15 to 8:15 p.m.

Nordic walking, or poling, involves walking with specialized poles with a rubber cushion foot tip that absorbs vibration and reduces stress to your hips, knees and ankle joints. It combines the aerobic and strength building benefits of cross-country skiing with the convenience of walking. Nordic Walking burns up to 28% more calories.

The technique is easy to learn, fun and suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels. Poles are provided.

Cost is $21.20 four sessions for Dogwood or Pinetree 50 Plus members, $26.50 for others.
