Nordic Walking Poles - Types
Nordic Walking is a form of walking which uses a pair of modified ski poles. It is a good exercise for the entire body since it involves walking while applying force to the poles with each stride. This exercise increases your overall strength and endurance, burns more calories than plain walking, and improves balance and stability.
To achieve a perfect workout, you must use a Nordic Walking equipment that is safe and sized correctly to meet your needs. Here are two of the main types of Nordic Walking Poles:
Adjustable Poles
These poles can be used by people of different heights since these poles can be adjusted by the one who uses it.
Under this type are the semi-adjustable poles, 2 piece adjustable poles and the 3 piece adjustable poles.
Semi-adjustable poles are useful for sharing with people of the same height. Aside from that, semi-adjustable poles create good swings and balance and are useful when used in hilly terrains. These poles are good for sharing with people of the same height.
The 2 piece adjustable poles can be adjusted to a smaller size that it can be stored easily and carried. Although there are those who say that 2 piece adjustable poles collapse when it cannot hold the weight of the user, it is advisable to buy ones that are manufactured with carbon, just to be sure.
The 3 piece adjustable poles can be even adjusted to the smallest size. It has the same benefits as that of the two above mentioned adjustable poles.
One Piece Poles
These types of poles are made up of either carbon or aluminum. For long walks and beginners, carbon is advisable. It is light weight and can absorb vibrations produced when pushing off the poles on the ground. These vibrations, if not controlled, can lead to repetitive strain injury (RSI).
Choose a walking pole that has a boot-shaped rubber tip. Its thickness will make your walking poles last longer. Aside from that, it will also make your walking poles heavier which unluckily will affect the swing weight of the poles.
Look for genuine Nordic Walking Poles for a better, long-lasting and successful workout.
