Nordic Walking - Progressive Technique
The act of using Nordic Walking Poles as an aid for walking is not hard to achieve. In fact, one can easily learn and get the hang of using poles while walking. Some would even find it perfectly natural to use Nordic Walking Poles after only a few tries.
If using the poles seems complicated to you, this article will guide you on how to do the progressive technique in Nordic Walking. Don't fret. This is all about how to synchronize your hands, poles, and legs while walking.
Start off by holding your poles and strapping your hands correctly. Then, walk forward like you normally do. Take notice of how you sway your arms, position your pole, and move your legs. Your right arm should be bent forward, while the pole is held at an angle. The left arm should be extended slightly at the back, below the pelvis area. The right leg is at the back, its heel off the ground.
To begin another stride, bend your right leg slightly, moving forward to level with the left leg. The left leg supports the weight of the right leg and the pole held by the right arm. Extend your right arm fully and thrust the pole on the ground at an angle.
Slightly open the palm of your right hand, and thrust the pole through the strap to culminate the extension of the arm. Meanwhile, your left fist and pole grip should be lifted slightly. Your left arm should be bent at the elbow. Your right leg is extended forward, heel first on the ground and ready for another stride. The left leg is extended fully and remains at the back.
For the final phase, do the grip and go technique. Release your hold to the pole and your right arm should be extended fully backwards. Lean slightly forward and plant the left pole.
Bear in mind that the poles are an extension of the hands. They help you maintain balance and stability while walking. With constant practice, you can progressively walk Nordic style.
