You can add more variety to make it more challenging and more effective as a full body workout. After brushing up on your basic technique, you can try doing an advanced skill. People with high fitness levels will definitely benefit from doing it. Read this section and learn how much more you can do in Nordic Walking.
Develop your skills and add more intensity to your full-body workout by doing any of the following: Nordic running, Nordic jogging, double poling, and Nordic skating.
Nordic Running
This is the fusion of Nordic Walking and Running, so you get the benefits of both worlds. In a nutshell, this only means running with poles. To start off, maintain a slow speed so you can get accustomed to coordinating your arm-leg movement and pole strikes.
Nordic Jogging
This technique will give more intensity to your full body workout. You will utilize your poles more since you will be making longer strides compared to the basic walking technique.
Double Poling
This technique is all about thrusting your poles at the same time and pushing yourself to make the strides. This targets the shoulders and upper back and improves muscles endurance.
Nordic Skating
This is actually long-distance skating, letting you skate out of the skating rink and into a wide variety of frozen spots. This is similar to the skating technique in which the steps or strides you make will be in a zigzag pattern.
Nordic Walking in itself is an effective exercise which works out most of your muscles. But if you want variety and you think you can handle more intensive and challenging exercises then try these advanced techniques. Just make sure to check your fitness level and brush up on your basic technique first before trying any of the skills above.
